Before the Eid prayer
Zakat al-Fitr
Given on behalf of every member of the household, and it must arrive before the Eid prayer.
Zakat al-Fitr must reach its recipients before the Eid prayer.
Given afterwards it becomes an ordinary sadaqah — still good, but no longer the thing that was required.
Why the date matters
Timing is the obligation
- It must arrive before the prayer. Not before Eid day — before the prayer itself.
- Given for every member of the household. Including children, and including anyone in your care.
- So we close early. We stop taking donations in time to distribute them, rather than accepting money we cannot deliver.

The per-person amount is set against the local price of a staple food each year, so it changes annually and we publish it rather than estimating.
